Truth > Trend… Just because you believe something is true doesn’t make it true. We live in a world where our truth prevails. But there is only one person that has the ultimate truth, and that is God.
This idea of “my truth” is subjective to our feelings and situations. My truth is based on feelings, which is following the heart. So let’s see what the Bible says about following our hearts.
Jeremiah 17:9-10 MSG “The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be.”
Our feelings are shaped by culture. Our truth is shaped by our experiences. “My truth” is situational. We are the source of our truth. We are a faulty source.
Proverbs 14:12-13 MSG There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak.
God's truth is absolute. It does not change. It applies to everyone and everywhere all the time.
God’s truth is fixed. The problem with THE truth is it challenges “my truth.”
2 Timothy 3:16 MSG Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way.
The most challenging part about accepting THE truth is that we don’t like correction. When we avoid correction we go down the wrong path. God’s truth is a mirror. When we look into that mirror it reveals to us where we are out of alignment with God. God’s truth is absolute moral truth.
Psalm 18:30-31 NLT God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock?
Deuteronomy 32:4 NLT He is the Rock; his deeds are perfect. Everything he does is just and fair. He is a faithful God who does no wrong; how just and upright he is!
Romans 8:28 NLT And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
God is just and fair. In the midst of trials and tribulation, we can let our truth in. But God’s truth is the blueprint for our lives. With His blueprint, we will have blessings, purpose and fulfillment in our lives. While some of God’s truths will make us uncomfortable, THE truth of God’s word will soften our hearts and transform our minds.
God’s truths can seem inconvenient at times, because of our lifestyle or our attitude. But God’s truth is not controversial. It is our truths and perspectives that have made them seem that way.
2 Peter 3:3 NLT Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.
1 Timothy 4:1 NLT Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
2 Timothy 4:2-4 NLT Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
As we walk in THE truth, we must have unconditional love with uncompromising truth. We best share who He is so that others can come to Him with unconditional love and uncompromising truth, because this is when we live His way and we receive peace, contentment and joy.
Truths we know:
*God created the heavens and the earth. -
Genesis 1:1 NLT In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
*There is only one way to God. -
Hebrews 11:3 NLT By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
*God's way is not exclusive. It is inclusive. -
John 14:6 NLT Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
We have all sinned and fallen short. The only way to get back to God is by accepting that Jesus paid the price for each of us.
*God knows us best. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He knew us before we were even in our mothers womb. -
Jeremiah 1:5 NLT “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
Psalm 139:13-16 NLT You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
*Marriage is between a man and a woman. When sharing with others we don’t change our theology but we love unconditionally.
Genesis 2:24 NLT This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.
Matthew 19:4 NLT “Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’
*Sex was created exclusively for husband and wife. We must go to God and ask what He would have for us.
Hebrews 13:4 MSG Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex.
*He determined your gender: male and female. -
Genesis 1:27 NLT So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Let’s side with God. The truth of God will set us free. His truth heals and redeems. We must respond when we hear His truth. We can love one another without affirming the lie of someone else’s truth.
Did you know the originator of “my truth” was Satan. In Genesis 3 Satan questioned God’s words.
Genesis 3:1 NLT The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”
*God calls us to forgive others and ourselves. God calls us to deny ourselves. -
Galatians 5:24 NLT Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.
God wants us to surrender our truth and accept His. He wants us to build our house on the Rock: God’s breathed word. It is a blueprint for an abundant life.
Psalm 84:11 NLT For the Lord God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.
Psalm 1:1-3 NLT Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season.
Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
When we know His truth, the lies of our truth are revealed. We must want God’s way above our ways.
