Wait, Marriage Represents God?
June 1, 2023
Marriage is the representation of God. Marriage is the foundational relationship of families. As we aim to help families follow Jesus, we must call attention to the foundation of every family. In marriage we are a living, breathing, tangible representation of God.
When God spoke to Adam, He told Adam He wants him to serve and protect what He gives him. He told Eve that she is Adam’s helper and aid.
Ephesians 5:24-25 NIV Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
We must recognize that marriage is not about us. It is about Him. It is His idea and gift to us. God’s original design is that we rule together face to face and side by side. As we exercise this in marriage, we are able to be His example in the world.
We were meant to be in community with each other. Sharing in the burden of our walk. We are not perfect, but when we do life together we are able to become stronger. We were never meant to compare our marriages, lives, or selves to one another. Comparison is the enemy of contentment. Build your relationship with God in community.
Marriage is joining together in the present. It is like glue. It takes time to stick. Like glue it needs pressure to be applied in order to hold. This pressure must be continuous. The pressure of Love, Forgiveness, Grace (unmerited favor, giving someone what they don’t deserve) and Mercy. This is the representation of Christ’s relationship with the church, with us.
Marriage is not easily broken. It is a covenant.
Matthew 19:6 NIV So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
