The Yes That Changed Everything

December 1, 2023

Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”

The foundation of a life surrendered to Him begins with saying yes to His purpose and His plan. Our plan won’t be activated until we say yes to Him.

Have you ever noticed that God interrupted Mary and Joseph’s plans? He is an interrupter. Although, God’s interruption feels less like interruption, and more like divine intervention.
God’s interventions feel like divine plot twists. Don’t miss and dismiss the divine interventions in your life. God will use ordinary moments to communicate profound direction.

Has it ever occurred to you that there was nothing specifically special about Mary? God is not looking for people with special abilities. He is looking for people with availability.

Luke 1:28 “The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Her womb would be the incubator for the savior of the world!

Luke 1:29 “Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.”

Mary was troubled by these words. She was not troubled that there was an angel in her room. She had been in the presence of the divine before. She was troubled by his words. Faith comes by hearing. Maybe it’s the things that we have been hearing that are holding us back rather than the things we see.

Ephesians 1:11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, - we are chosen by God, I’m valued.

God does not play favorites, but He does favor us. God will introduce us to things we don’t feel qualified for. That’s how we know we are favored. Mary was favored. To be favored means to be chosen. Favor is about what God is calling us to give. When God gives us favor it is to serve others not ourselves. You know you are favored when your life feels turned upside down. Favor means to risk the honor of man. God’s favor comes with the benefit of His presence.
Luke 1:34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

Mary was accustomed to being in the presence of God; she did not ask why, instead she asked how. She had a relationship with God. Thus, she didn’t doubt that God was going to use her. Her question is How.

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

The Holy Spirit is how. The Holy Spirit gives supernatural support. We need the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will come upon us and overshadow us in all things that God places in our path to do. This divine force will be there when God is calling us into His plans. He gives us the covering and power of the Holy Spirit.

When Pastor Daryl was 7 his mother passed away. At the age of 9 he recalled a vivid memory. He was looking at the tiles of the ceiling in his basement. His dad was calling him to help and be present for adult duties. He did not feel that he could do what he was being called to. He had 7 siblings. It was all too much to absorb and handle. So he ran away. He ran away to be by himself. Then one night he was sleeping by the train tracks and he heard the voice of God say “you can do this because I am with you.”

Luke 1:36 Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month.

God gives Mary confirmation that what He says will come to be. Elizabeth is pregnant. An old barren woman is pregnant! How could Mary deny she serves a God of miracles and that the impossible was in fact possible. The Holy Spirit man can do anything

When we are holding a miracle in us, we will be around others that are holding a miracle. When we are the only one holding a miracle we can feel like that miracle is a curse or a burden. However, when we are around others we know we aren’t the only one. Community is important!

Luke 1:37 For no word from God will ever fail.”

Then God gave Mary confidence. No word from God will ever fail!

Luke 1:38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

She was the Lord's servant. Let us not be satisfied until EVERYTHING He said comes true. The things standing between us and the plan and purpose God has for us is our Yes. We are the Lord’s servants.

Matthew 1:19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

Not only Mary had to say yes. Joseph also had to say yes. Our yes triggers God divine assignment and His grace not just for ourselves but for others to join in on the work.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Our yes creates a legacy. It reaches far beyond us. Our yes has the power for transformational impact.
