Serving People, Serving God
July 10, 2023
Matthew 9:35-38 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Being sent to serve is our calling. Our lives are meant to be about serving people. When we serve God we serve people. People are His ministry. People matter to God.
They matter to God, because He made them in His image and likeness. You matter to God so They matter to God. We have to go to those that don’t know they matter to let them know they matter.
The Bible is about people who were sent to people to let them know they matter. The problem with the ills of society is that they do not know God! The problem you most often see and feel is where you are called to serve.
Our small efforts make a huge difference. Our job is not to do the changing. Our job is to show God through our heart to serve and in this way God does the changing. Let us never forget that everyone everywhere is a part of His harvest.
Romans 12:2 Don’t change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but let God change you inside with a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to understand and accept what God wants for you. You will be able to know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.
3 Prayers to Pray for those who were sent to serve
1. Lord, help me to see what you see
God does His part. He is looking for people who will partner with Him.
Matthew 18:3 Then he said, “The truth is, you must change your thinking and become like little children. If you don’t do this, you will never enter God’s kingdom.
If we are not converted we will be perverted. Based on what we see it creates an experience in our minds that can inhibit our actions. Our sight needs to be converted and transformed to His sight. Being like a child helps us, as children are seeing things for the first time. They are uninhibited by their experiences to act.
2. Lord, help me to feel what you feel
Help us to be concerned for what we see so that we step into where You need us. Let us not respond in our own emotion. Let us respond in the Spirit. Let us be directed.
We are so used to seeing the ills of society that we become conditioned to seeing them. We all need a Shepherd. God’s compassion disrupts us inwardly to cause us to act outwardly.
Do you remember the scripture above? The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. We are the laborers. Every problem in the world can be boiled down to a lack of a relationship with Jesus. He is the problem solver. Let us labor by bringing Him into every circumstance we find ourselves.
3. God, let me go where you send me
When opportunity and availability come together it’s God! Stay alert and sensitive to this. The more we seek Him the more we see Him.
