Jehovah Shalom - When we know who He is we find His promises.
170 times Jehovah Shalom is used in the Bible. Shalom means peace. God wants us to have rest and peace. Our peace comes from Him, not money or government or relationships.
John 16:33 NLT I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
He promises peace. Maybe you aren’t sure that you have peace with God? But He promises peace. It’s not what we do, it’s everything He has done and does do for us.
Romans 5:1-2 NLT Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory.
Romans 5:9-10 NLT And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
Romans 8:5-8 MSG Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them—living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. Focusing on the self is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, ends up thinking more about self than God. That person ignores who God is and what he is doing. And God isn’t pleased at being ignored.
When we have peace with God we don’t live under condemnation. We don’t walk in condemnation.
Romans 5:11 NLT So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.
Your identity in Christ equals peace in your life. You are chosen, You are adopted, You are forgiven, You are found, You are seen, You are wanted.
Romans 8:33-34 NLT Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.
Isaiah 57:20-21 NLT “But those who still reject me are like the restless sea, which is never still but continually churns up mud and dirt. There is no peace for the wicked, says my God.
Peace with God comes through believing something has been done for us. It’s not what we do. It’s believing what He has done.
We make things right in a relationship when we humble ourselves. That’s what we need to do with God. God’s simple. Religion is complex. Keep it simple.
We can have peace in the midst of conflict and trouble. It is in conflict and trouble that worry and fear come in. But we can have peace in the midst of all the chaos. When we know the reputation and track record of Christ. This is why we can trust Him and have peace in our chaos.
How do you walk in peace?
The measure of peace in our lives is based on our confidence and expectation in Him.
Isaiah 26:3 NLT You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Colossians 3:15-17 MSG Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.
2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
God says do not fear. When we fill our lives with His word and His reputation we gain clarity.
Philippians 4:6-7 MSG Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.
He is a promise keeper and a way maker. Our peace is the biggest witness to the world. Peace and stability is how we are a light on the hill in the midst of chaos.
Worry focuses on the world and everything in it. Prayer focuses on God. We must keep Him in our focus at all times. This brings us peace. God renews and transforms our mind.
Romans 12:1-2 MSG So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Romans gives us the tangible instructions of what to do each and every day. When we worry we assume responsibility that God never intended for us to have. All that energy is not marshaled wisely.
Galatians 5:22-23 MSG But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
God’s Promises:
Isaiah 40:26-27 NLT Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights?
Colossians 1:17 NLT He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
Proverbs 16:4 NLT The Lord has made everything for his own purposes, even the wicked for a day of disaster.
Isaiah 14:24 NLT The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath: “It will all happen as I have planned. It will be as I have decided.
Luke 12:6-7 NLT “What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
Matthew 6:26-34 NLT Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
“And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?
“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
