Hitting Space In Our Schedule
May 7, 2023
We yes our way into things, because it’s what we think we are supposed to do.
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
We must hit space, take pause and consider if all the things we commit to are actually good things for us.
Space is not always created by doing less. It can be created by doing the right things
So how do we know what the right things are?
When we explore the story of Moses in Exodus 18 we see that Moses had everyone who had a problem come to him and he would decide for them what to do next. Jethro, Mose’s father-in-law, watched the way Moses did his work and said this is not good (Exodus 18:17).
If someone were to talk to your spouse, kids, or friends, what would they say about your schedule?
Zoom out on your schedule. To create space in our schedule we have to look to our future. What do we want for our future? Knowing this can help us correctly order today.
Life is the sum of all the little things you do everyday that make you better. We have to do what it takes everyday to build our future by the actions we take today. We must lead in the way we want to go, because vision without execution is a hallucination.
Don’t trade short term satisfaction for long term significance. We have no idea what hangs in the balance of creating space. Yet God does. When we create space God can move. In this way, we are leaning into our obedience of Him and His way for our lives.
