God Is Holy

January 24, 2024

We want to be a church that does not have a mere acquaintance with God. We want to have an intimate relationship with Him. Transformation happens when we know about God, not about ourselves.

We sin so easily, because we don’t believe our body belongs to God. We appoint ourselves to be god when we don't believe in God. Who He is and what He can do.

When we survey our lives we make decisions not because we think we have the right answer. We make decisions because we think we have a better one. But don’t we know that He is present, personal and loving?

The Hebrew word for Fear means aw and trembling. There is a healthy fear that is necessary when you talk about the Holiness of God.

Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the Lord adds length to life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.

When we fear Him we will live in the way He commands. The fear of God brings the best outcome for our lives. We cannot look to man for the standard of holy. We must look to the one who is wholly Holy. Holy means set apart and God is set apart from everything else.

Isaiah 46:9 Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.

He is the only of His kind. God is separate and transcendent. He exists above everything. He offers a perspective we cannot see. God is incomparable to anything.

Isaiah 40:18 With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him?

He stands alone in majesty and power.

Isaiah 45:5 I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me,

God is pure and good. He is without sin. He is flawless.

Psalm 18:30 As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.

He is the very essence of goodness. God is so good He is making all things for our good. God is so good that He turns our pain into goodness. God is so good He put on human flesh and died for us.

His goodness is not enhanced or diminished by our circumstances. His goodness is Holy. We must remember that God is not our Santa Claus or genie in a bottle. He is working all things for our good, but with so much more information than we could fathom.

Isaiah 6:2-3 Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

The angels used their wings to cover their face, because God is a billion times brighter than them. They covered their feet when they were in the presence of God, because they didn’t feel they deserved to be in His presence.

Also take note that when something is repeated in the Bible it is to get our attention. “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord Almighty.”

Isaiah 6:5 “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Isaiah recognizes his sinfulness as He sees God’s holiness. He then stopped comparing himself to what happened in the world.

Have you ever noticed that we judge ourselves by the worst standards? When was the last time you judged yourself by the light of God instead of the depravity of man?

Isaiah 6:8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Encountering God’s holiness isn’t a passive happening. It is a call to action. It demands for us to walk in righteousness. We can be separated because we are separated.

We don’t have to do more to be perfect. We can be holy. We simply must be set apart.

The catch; however, is that we do not process the power to be holy. We are the vessel that He uses when we submit. We have the power to surrender and surrender we must do. Surrender is what will set us apart from this world.

In this way, we will be so different we stand out. We were never called to blend in. When we have been in the presence of God we look different. We act different. The only response we have in the presence of a Holy God is to worship and surrender.

Here am I.

This is the only response I can give Him. Surrender. He’s got this. Even if my circumstances didn’t changed, I changed
