We stay faithful because He is faithful. When we give God our 10% it takes 100% of our faith.
The point is to give in increments that take 100% of our faith.
Money was always meant to be fluid. We give because we honor God. We don’t give to get. When we treat money in this way it can have a grip on our lives.
The way we take the grip away is by recognizing and knowing that no money is actually ours. We exercise and show this reality by giving.
When we sow and plant as we give of our time and resources we wait for the harvest. In times of drought and uncertainty we need to keep planting, because we know we never carry the burden of our own provision.
It may seem crazy with a world view, but we have to trust God with our stuff.
1 Kings 17:7-12 NIV Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land. Then the word of the Lord came to him: “Go at once to Zarephath in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow there to supply you with food.” So he went to Zarephath. When he came to the town gate, a widow was there gathering sticks. He called to her and asked, “Would you bring me a little water in a jar so I may have a drink?” As she was going to get it, he called, “And bring me, please, a piece of bread.” “As surely as the Lord your God lives,” she replied, “I don’t have any bread—only a handful of flour in a jar and a little olive oil in a jug. I am gathering a few sticks to take home and make a meal for myself and my son, that we may eat it—and die.”
God isn’t always logical when He tells us to do something.
1 Kings 17:13-15 NIV Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land.’”
She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family.
The principle of first is throughout the Bible. The woman was given a promise through Elijah from God. When we take our firsts and give it to God He multiplies it.
Don’t worry, trust Him.
The widow had to trust what the prophet said instead of her current circumstances. We have to pass the needs test. We have to recognize our needs and still put God first.
Matthew 6:30-34 MSG “If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
We have a Heavenly Father that knows exactly what we need. However, many times the distance between our trust in God and what we think He will provide is too great.
We must remember that our seed, our first fruits are not an expense. It is an investment to the future.
The law of sowing and reaping works. When we sow sparingly, we reap sparingly. When we sow generously, we reap generously. Our financial security can be secure in planting. Financial freedom is not making more money, it's managing what you have the way God is instructing us to.
There is a difference between God meeting our needs and meeting our wants.
Proverbs 3:9-10 NIV Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
We honor God by giving Him the first part of everything we are blessed to have and cultivate. The power of multiplication is abundance. Condemnation always comes in the form of “will I have enough.”
2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every
There will be plenty left over to share with others. We are to be a river of blessing for the kingdom of God. We must cultivate a lifestyle of generosity so that we can be that river.
2 Corinthians 9:10 NIV Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
Ecclesiastes 11:4 NIV Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.
Waiting for perfect weather only keeps us stalled. We never start when we are waiting for the right conditions. We must remember that there is always a waiting period. This cannot be why we don’t start. Our sowing takes trust and faithfulness.
The worst thing we can do is stop planting. Stay faithful. He is faithful. Get consumed with making margin on your life not consumption.
