“Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is
in the heavens. You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God who
gives power and strength to His people." Psalms 68:34-35
Recently I was on a walk when a summer storm suddenly rolled in and a loud
clap of thunder caused me to nearly jump out of my skin! I turned my walk
into a run and got home just before the heavy rain and lightning strikes
began. This unexpected storm made me think of the overwhelming
power of God in all of creation.
We know and serve a God who is all powerful. He holds all things together in
nature and the world around us, yet is also powerfully working in each of our
lives, knowing what we need and meeting us right where we are.
On that walk, I had been praying specifically to hear God's voice, seeking
clarity and discernment. I was asking Him to speak to me and give me ears to
hear. It felt as if, out of nowhere, that thunder cracked right in front of me,
making me stand at attention. Isn't God amazing? Just as I was praying to
hear Him, He let me know He was listening!
Psalm 138:3 says, "When I called, You answered me; You strengthened my
spirit." Another version puts it beautifully, "The moment I called out, You
stepped in."
I love how God steps in and demonstrates His strength, power, and presence
in the world around us. The word for this power is “omnipotence”, the quality
of having unlimited power—all powerful. Omnipotence signifies that God
possesses unlimited power and can do anything. This
means there are no constraints on His ability to act, and He is the ultimate
source of all power, with complete and total control over everything.
Do you believe this? Is His omnipotence something that you trust in your
daily journey with God? Do you recognize that He is in control of your life and
is a safe place to land?
In Genesis 1, God's absolute power is conveyed by the fact that He merely
speaks, and things are created. Jeremiah 32:17 echoes this, saying, "Ah, Lord
God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power
and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you."
Nothing is too hard for Him. This is the undeniable power of God—He is large
and in charge! There is nothing stronger than the wonder-working power of
the blood of the Lamb. Our salvation is entirely the work of God’s power, not
our own.
Hebrews 4:12 states, "For the word that God speaks is alive and full of power."
This power in His Word is available to us as we seek Him, learn what He says,
and walk in obedience. Have you tapped into this power in the everyday
decisions of your life? What is hard for you right now that you could call out,
and allow Him to answer you?
Let's trust what He says and lean into the power of God, His omnipotence in
all things, the all-powerful Creator for whom nothing is too hard!
