“He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm”
Proverbs 13:20
A little while ago I took my kids on a walk with a younger friend of ours, Tripp, who is just two years old. Each of my children had their scooter, Tripp had his miniature version. My kiddos took off and Tripp took off behind them. My son would lift a leg in the air, Tripp lifted his leg. My daughter would hop off her scooter to look at a flower, Tripp hopped off his scooter and looked at the flower. He did whatever they did. He followed them and did exactly as they did.
Later on, I brought up my observation to my kids. I showed them a picture I had taken of them in a line on their scooters with their little buddy following close behind. I asked them if they realized Tripp was copying them, and they had not really noticed. It opened up a great conversation about who follows us and who we are following. I told them someone was always going to be watching what they were doing, and if they were following Jesus then maybe, just maybe that person would follow Jesus if they started to follow and copy them. It led me to dig deeper and think about who might be watching me, whether my kids, friends, family, even the people at the grocery store. Are they seeing Jesus? Because if they are going to watch something about me and maybe copy it, I want it to point them to Him.
Who is watching and maybe following you? Do they see Jesus? Who are you following? Proverbs 13:20 says “He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” I hope to always surround myself with ladies that I want to learn from and follow. My small group is just that, women that I want to copy because I see Jesus in them. They are women that bring me closer to Him. I’m so thankful for my church, that provides many opportunities for me to find community with awesome ladies.
Paul says in Romans 12:2, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” I pray that each of our families will continue to follow Jesus, and maybe our example will allow others to follow Him too!
