Does God Got This?

Pastor Craig Altman

Matthew 6:24 New Living Translation

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.

God is the owner.

1 Chronicles 29:11-12
 New Living Translation

11Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. 12Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.

  • Decide to spend less than you make.

Ecclesiastes 5:10
 New Living Translation

Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!

Proverbs 21:20
Good News Translation

Wise people live in wealth and luxury, but stupid people spend their money as fast as they get it.

  •  Give God the first part.

Proverbs 3:9-10
The Living Bible

9Honor the Lord by giving him the first part of all your income, 10and he will fill your barns with wheat and barley and overflow your wine vats with the finest wines.

  •  Trust God to meet your every need.

Matthew 6:25-27, 31-33
 New Living Translation

25“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? 26Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? 27Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?

31“So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ 32These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. 33Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

God’s got this.

Now What?

Matthew 6:24 New Living Translation

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money.

Question to Ask:

What are some ways we tend to act like owners rather than stewards of what God has given? How might your financial decisions look different if you truly saw yourself as a manager of God’s resources rather than the owner?

Application:

This week, take a moment to review your finances. Do they line up with the values and priorities you want to live by? What is one practical financial step you can take to demonstrate your trust that God is in control?
